MCP737 README

FIRMWARE/SOFTWARE COMPATYBILITY

- Firmware rel. 1.00 run with software rel. 1.00 and 1.01 (do not support external modules like EFIS)

- Firmware rel. 1.01 run with software rel. 1.02 (support external modules)

--------------------------------------------------------------------

SYSTEM SET-UP

- Connect RS232 and power supply to the hardware

- Run MCP_CONF and select the used communication port. This will light up the hardware, you may regulate here the display brightness and test functionality.

- Close MCP_CONF

- Copy FSUIPC.dll it into module folder of FS (if not already done before).

- For detailed information read MCP737 operation manual; download it at http://www.cpflight.com/sito/downloads/downloads.asp

--------------------------------------------------------------------

FIRST START WITH FS2000/2002/2004

- Run FS and FS_COM (for hint about run FS_COM automatically see operation manual)

- If you do not have a registered copy of FSUIPC, the first time you run FS_COM.exe you will asked to register your copy of FSUIPC. Click on "Register an application program" in the FSUIPC option and setting tab. Insert FS_COM in the "Program name" field, and 69C1 1OEH 1WG7 in the key field. Note that this is not a full registration of FSUIPC and only enable FS_COM.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

FIRST START WITH PROJECT MAGENTA

- Download last version of Project Magenta MCP (build number should be at least 373) http://www.projectmagenta.com/downloads/update.html

- Run Project Magenta MCP (this create "CPFlightComm= 0" string in mcp.ini file located in the Project Magenta MCP folder)

- Exit the program.

- Edit the Project Magenta mcp.ini file and change the "0" in the above string with the used COM port. (i.e. if you connect the MCP737 to the COM1 set CPFlightComm= 1)

- Locate Preferences.txt, DigitalIN.txt, DigitalOUT.txt, AnalogIN.txt and AnalogOUT.txt files in the CPflight folder and copy all them in the Project Magenta MCP folder. If you change anything in the configuration (input assignment etc.) update the modified file in the Project Magenta MCP folder

- Run FS and Project Magenta MCP

-------------------------------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT NOTE

- FS_COM (communication driver), MCP_CONF (configuration program) and Project Magenta MCP are separate tools and may not run together.

- If you use I/O extensions of MCP737, note that last two Analog Inputs (5 and 6) are high-resolution channels. If you connect inputs to these channels you should use very stable potentiometer. These two inputs are specially dedicated for multi-turn potentiometers useful to assign altimeter pressure setting, pitch-trim or similar controls.

- All assigned analog inputs should be connected to a potentiometer. Avoid leaving open assigned analog inputs, if you disconnect a previous assigned potentiometer; remove its assignment from the configuration file (run MCP_CONF and select "none" in the drop-down list).

- MCP turns off command come from the computer when FS is closed. If you have a computer block MCP may stay on or may fail the successive turn on. If you find any problem with MCP start or turn off, it is advisable to reset the unit. To do it, disconnect the power supply from the MCP for a moment and reconnect it.

- If you reinstall Cpflight software, all configuration file (Preferences.txt, DigitalIN.txt, DigitalOUT.txt, AnalogIN.txt and AnalogOUT.txt) will be overwritten with empty configuration. Make a copy of configuration file in a your own directory if you need to keep them.
